Applecross - Gairloch

Here's todays update.

At 3am the wind was howling around the bothy and the rain was pounding off the roof.

By 7.30am the wind had dropped right off and by just after 9am we were on the water just as the rain finally stopped.

Pushed along by a F3-4 SSW we made good progress up the coast of Applecross.

Stopped at Sands for a quick breather (famous for some TV thing last year according to Tony) and gave the lads at the MoD underwater range a quick wave as we continued on up the coast.

Lunch was at the lovely sandy bay at Cuaig at the North end of Applecross to top up on fuel before crossing Loch Torridon. Halfway across the mouth of the Loch we were buzzed by a pair of Bonxies or Skuas. A clear sign of our progress Northwards. Having established that we were unlikely to provide a meal they headed off in search of alternative sustenance.

By now the wind had dropped further and the day was starting to clear up.

After a further break at Red Point we pressed on to the youth hostel at Gairloch for the night.

All in all a cracking days paddling and a great improvement on yesterday.

Distance today: 47km
Total distance overall: 102km.
Midgee ferocity in Gairloch: 2/5
